Between 9 - 13 September 2009 the 18th Budapest Wine Festival on Castle Hill attracted ten thousands of visitors and can be regarded a smashing success. In approximate 200 stands Hungarian wineries presented more than 2000 wines. Special guest in 2009: the Freixenet Group, with 8 wineries from Spain.
The festival started eighteen years ago on Vörösmarty tér in Pest. Over the last years the festival became one of the biggest and most beautiful wine festivals in the world. The festival location on Buda Castle Hill was a brilliant choice, combining wine-tasting with a formidable site and impressing panorama. Winetraders from Hungary and abroad, restaurant owners, sommeliers, journalists but also an increasing number of consumers and tourists visit the festival.
The organising company of Budapest Wine festival, Borkultúra Kft. / Viniculture Co., was founded by the Hungarian Viniculture Foundation and established in 1991 to pro Hungarian wines and the winemakers in Hungary and abroad with the aim to stimulate Hungarian wine-export. Representatives of different areas of viniculture, including professional associations, business federations, research and training are on the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
